Autumn in the Finnish Lapland

Paid partnership: Finnair

I think autumn is one of the best times for a photographer of my kind. Nice golden light and you can find variety of colors in the nature. There are a lot nice moody mornings and there’s winter in the air. Hiking becomes much more fun when you can adjust the temperature with layering and you get to warm up by the fire etc.

Usually I start the autumn tour from the Nordic Countries as around Europe that’s where the shift to winter starts first. For a few years I’ve settled around Kolari area as it’s definitely one of my favorites in Finland. There’s good services there and the nature is really beautiful.

This year I was able to go twice and show a few of my friends my favorite places around there. The best time to go varies every year, but I’ve liked the two last weeks of September. There’s definitely a lot of people out there that time of the year, but there’s plenty of nature for everyone to enjoy!

To-do list for a nice autumn adventure in Ylläs area.
- Kuertunturi (hike with views)
- Äkässaivo (lake and a shelter with a fireplace)
- Äkäsmylly (short walk to a river and a spot for a bonfire)
- Kesänkijärvi and Pirunkuru (hike with nice lake views and a fell top. A place to do a bonfire)
- Äkäslompolo acitivies (e-fatbikes, canoes, fishing and guiding)
